Bantam Minors end the weekend with two WINS!!!
2010-02-10
Our Bantam Minor Team came together to show everyone they are a competitive force among a league of strong teams. This past weekend started with a hard fought game against the first place Kennesaw Jr. Thrashers Team. The Knights scored the first goal of the game and kept the Jr. Thrashers within a one goal differential until the third period. In the third period, the seasoned Jr. Thrashers turned up their game and capitalized on some great scoring opportunities to win the game 5-2.
The second game against the Duluth Jr. Thrashers got off to a rough start with multiple penalties incurred by the Knights in the first period. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn’t get past this to keep up with a team who was striving for their first win in two months. The game ended in a 4-0 loss.
Coming off two losses the prior day, would this impact the spirit of this talented Knights Team? No, this made the team even more eager to get a win during this important league weekend. The team started the morning with a game against the second place Atlanta Fire Team. The Knights stayed focused with an eye on the win using all the skills they have learned and practiced for several months. It was an exciting game which remained scoreless for the first period. Both teams each scored a goal in the second period keeping this game very competitive. In the third period, the Knights scored to edge past the Fire. With three minutes to go, the Fire came back to tie up the game. In a nail biting last minute of the game, could the Knights see a win in their future and give it that extra push to make it happen? YES, and they did with 4.6 second remaining to score the game winning goal and end the game with a 3-2 win. The crowds cheered as the Knights win their first league play game against the very competitive Atlanta Fire Team.
With the team on a winning high, the Knights were ready for their last game of the weekend against the Duluth Jr. Thrashers. Although the team lost a game against the Jr. Thrashers the day before, no one could take away the spirit they gained earlier that morning. The Jr. Thrashers were also coming off of a tie against the Kennesaw Jr. Thrashers which was a great accomplishment. Both teams were fiercely looking for that additional win making this an exciting game. In the first period, the Knights kicked off the scoring, but it was quickly followed by a goal from the Jr. Thrashers. Both teams then followed up with two goals each in the second period leading to yet another nail biting third period. The Knights again played a smart game both offensively and defensively putting two more goals on the scoreboard. Additionally, our goaltending was right on the mark stopping goal after goal to keep our lead resulting in another win for the weekend. The Knights did it again by staying focused and playing smart with improved passing and position play. Knights win their last game of the weekend 5-4.
Coach Elowe commented “Both games were truly team efforts all around with strong contributions from everyone offensively and defensively. I am extremely proud not only of the overall effort, focus and level of play, but in the way the team pulled together throughout two hard fought games.” We are so proud of our Knights Bantam Minor Team. Awesome job Knights!!
