Atlanta Knights Travel Coaches 2010-2011


Coach Kevin Kerr – Hockey Development Team

·       Native of North Bay, Ontario

·       holds the position of Coach-in-Chief and Director of all Atlanta Knights hockey operations. 

·       accumulated numerous records and achievements during his 19 year professional hockey playing career. 

·       Set the all time goal scoring record at the minor professional hockey level and accumulated more than 1,300 points during his career and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.

·       was selected 56th overall by the Buffalo Sabres  in the NHL Entry Draft. His career includes outstanding acheivements at multiple levels of professional hockey, and retired in 1985 with the Flint Generals of the IHL.

·       coached professionally as Head Coach for the North Bay Skyhawks (NOJHL) and for the Flint Generals (IHL). 

·       His coaching style is instructional and intensive.  He expects total commitment from his players, and in turn, provides each player the tools to move to the next level.  Consistent excellence is his goal,

·       Coach Kerr is chair of the Atlanta Knights Junior Hockey Club staff and holds the supervisory position over the entire program.

 

Coach Matt Frank – Hockey Development Team

 

Native of Billings, Montana, 
  • His experience in hockey includes three years as a standout player for the Bozeman Ice Dogs of the NAHL (Tier II, Junior A), where he was named Captain and Player of the Year. 
  • received an athletic scholarship to NCAA Division I Ferris State, where he was a four-year letterman and Assistant Captain for the bulldogs. 
  • graduated from Ferris State with a 3.49 GPA and was then selected to play professional hockey in the CHL with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. 
  • coaching experience includes five years as head instructor at the Lafontaine Hockey School. 
  • Prior to coming to the Knights, Matt was the Assistant Coach of the Billings Bulls, Junior A Hockey Club in the NORPAC.  
  • In his first season as Head Coach with the Knights, Matt’s led his young knights to the SEJHL Championship with a 28 -0- 0 - 1 record and claimed the 2010 USA Hockey Junior National Championship.

Coach  Ken Honeyman –  Head Coach -Junior Development Team (Paid Coach)

                                                               

  • Coach Honeymay is a Native of Canada.
  • Played all levels of amateur hockey including juniors
  • Over 30 years of coaching experience in Calgary, Denver and Atlanta.
  • has worked with and placed young players entering the top U.S Prep Schools.
  • has coached a number of players now playing on Division I and III college hockey teams in North Dakota, Wisconsin, Dartmouth, Holy Cross as well as a number of players playing in junior programs throughout the U.S. and Canada.
  • Is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach.

His coaching methods focus on systems and discipline as motivational tools developing quality individuals with a desire to be the best they can on and off the ice.

Coach David “Bubba” Smith – Head Coach – Midget 16 AA (Paid Coach)

 

  • Coach Smith was born in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Highstown, NJ
  • Played Junior A hockey in New York.
  • He has over 20 years of playing and coaching hockey at all levels. He has co-coached the Walton High School team,
  • Coaching Midgets the past four years, Coach Smith has moved more than 16 players directly to Junior Hockey
  • Co-founder of the Shersports hockey club which has run clinics for five years and has over 40 players.
  •  Coach Smith is defined by the knowledge, energy and enthusiasm that he brings to his players and teams that he coaches.  He is a certified USA Hockey Level IV coach.

 

Coach Adam Berger – Midget Minor A (Paid Coach)

 

·         Coach Berger is a native of Burlington, Vermmont and played hockey as a youth at AAA / AA leves

·         Played four years of varsity hockey at a Division one New England Prep School Williston Northampton.

·         Strong knowledge for the game of hockey Senior Instructor Elite Hockey Camps for over four years in New England

·         Worked the last two Years With the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL.  Will be obtaining USAH level IV coaching certification

·         Attended Drake University

 

 

Coach Dan Carlson (Bantam Major)

 

·         Coach Carlson is a native of Minnesota played high level hockey from youth through high school

·         from squirts – bantams.  Coached numerous invitational tournament teams - Minnesota Selects, Elite Classic, Super Series, etc.  Coached several invitational D I College teams.

·         20 years coaching & conducting skill development hockey programs

·         Instructed over 5,000 hockey players & worked with dozens of professional skating instructors

·         Several original mites now playing in college

·         He is a USAH Certified Level III Coach

 

Coach Bill Galvin – Head Coach (Bantam Minor)

 

  • Coach Galvin has over 30 years of ice hockey experience as a player, referee, and coach. The 2010 season marks Coach Galvin’s eighth in Atlanta and Fifth with the MIC.
  • He has covered the NHL as a national TV sports producer, working closely with Thrasher’s TV analyst Darren Elliot.
  • played collegiate hockey for the University of Tennessee and still plays in Atlanta-area adult hockey leagues.
  • Coach Galvin is a certified USA Hockey Level III coach.

 

 

Coach Tim Kitigawa – Head Coach (Peewee Major)

 

·         Coach Kitagawa is a native of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. 

·         Has played competitive hockey since the age of 7 and has competed at all amateur levels. 

·         Has over 15 years of experience as a referee, instructor and coach.

·         Coaching emphasis is on the development of necessary fundamental skills in young players, with an emphasis on a balance of athletic and academic achievement.  

·         Coach Tim is a Level IV coach and is fully certified by USA Hockey.

·         Tim resides in Marietta, with his wife, Zdenka, and his two children Kobe and Celine.

Coach Liam Tully – Head Coach (Squirt Major – Paid Coach)

 

  • Coach Liam is a native of Toronto, Canada
  • Played all levels of competitive hockey from youth to Juniors
  • Was drafted and played Tier III Junior A hockey for several year with Queen City Steam of the CSHL
  • Was a standout player and leader for the Atlanta Junior Knights in 2008-2009 helping lead the knights to a 41-6-2 record
  • Was Assistant Coach of the Atlanta Junior Knights in 2009-2010, and was part of the coaching staff that led the Knights to the USAH Junior National Championship
  • Has tremendous passion and knowledge of the game of hockey
  • Will complete his USAH Level IV Certification in May 2010


Coach Scott Murphy  -Co-Head Coach (Squirt Minor -Paid Coach)

 

  • Native of Canada
  • Played Competitive Travel Hockey at all levels of youth including the AAA/ AA Level
  • Drafted and Played Tier II Junior A Hockey In Canada with Smith Falls and Brockville of the CJHL
  • Was a Standout player with the Atlanta Junior Knights, helping to lead the Knights to the MJHL Championship, Keegan Cup, and USAH National Champion Runner-up
  • Has tremendous hockey and coaching knowledge and will complete his USAH Level IV Certification in May 2010
